The material
So Sponge products are made from a chemically neutral mineral material, organised across multiple size scales.
Nanocrystals
The base unit of the material, at nanometric scale.
Micrometric powder
Formed by aggregation of nanocrystals.
Millimetric coating
The space between nanocrystals forms the active porosity for adsorption.
Properties
Pore size determines at which humidity level the material begins to adsorb moisture.
So Sponge material starts acting when humidity exceeds 60%, just above the recommended level for ambient air.
By tuning pore size, one can target intermediate humidity levels (60–80%) or very high levels (>80%).
