For specifiers

AirSponge for design consultancies and engineering firms

You design sealed enclosures, sensors, cameras or outdoor equipment for your clients. AirSponge is a passive desiccant that regenerates on its own, to be specified at the design stage: one sticker on an internal wall, no electronics, no maintenance.

Why

What AirSponge changes in a design project

A design firm meets condensation project by project, often during qualification, when the enclosure is already frozen. AirSponge is decided earlier and does not change the design.

Zero change to the enclosure

Self-adhesive sticker about 1 mm thick bonded to an internal wall. No drilling, no wiring, no power. Works alongside an existing pressure equalization vent, or replaces it.

One qualification risk removed

Fogging on optics or lenses, PCB corrosion under thermal cycling: the most frequent cases reported by our customers. The activation threshold at about 60% RH keeps the internal air below the risk zone.

Nothing to maintain for your client

The material regenerates spontaneously at ambient temperature. No sachet to replace, no heater, 0 W. Service life aligned with the equipment, from -20 °C to +70 °C.

Technical support for you

Sizing, hygrothermal modeling and climate chamber testing (-10 °C to 70 °C, 5 to 95% RH) to validate the solution under project conditions before the design review.

Process

How we work with a design firm

1

You describe the project

Enclosure or envelope type, internal volume, IP rating, presence of optics, site climate. Three lines in the form below are enough.

2

Kit and sizing

Reply within 24 business hours with a proposed format and surface area. The sample kit ships for your tests or your client's.

3

You specify, your client orders

The part number goes into the BOM. Your client orders directly, online or on quote. You stay independent: no commission, no exclusivity.

Order of magnitude. The sizing tool refines it from climate, IP rating and thermal cycling. Custom die-cuts available down to a few cm².

Clearances and compatibility

  • A flat, accessible internal surface in contact with the enclosure air to bond the sticker (thickness about 1 mm).
  • Operating range -20 °C to +70 °C. Activation threshold about 60% RH, spontaneous regeneration when the internal air dries again.
  • Compatible with pressure equalization vents: AirSponge handles humidity, the vent handles pressure.
  • Mineral material (mesoporous aluminum oxide), non-toxic, REACH compliant. Bare-hand handling on the assembly line. Not yet UL Recognized.

Requirements

Specification text to copy

Two paragraphs ready to paste into a requirements document or a BOM note. Replace [V] with the project's internal volume.

Sealed enclosure ≤ 100 L (AS-B)

Passive humidity control: the enclosure integrates a self-regenerating desiccant based on mesoporous alumina (AirSponge AS-B type, So Sponge), bonded to an internal wall, with an active surface area sized for an internal volume of [V] L (XS/S/M/L format per supplier sizing).
The desiccant provides a useful adsorption capacity at least 8 times that of silica gel at equivalent mass in the 60-90% RH range, an activation threshold of approximately 60% RH, spontaneous regeneration at ambient temperature without energy input, an operating range of -20 °C to +70 °C and a thickness of approximately 1 mm.
It requires no replacement and no maintenance over the service life of the equipment. Non-toxic mineral material, REACH compliant, made in France.

Cabinet, box, shelter > 1 m³ (AS-C)

Passive humidity control: the envelope (cabinet, box, shelter, container) integrates pre-adhesive strips of self-regenerating desiccant based on mesoporous alumina (AirSponge AS-C type, So Sponge, 200 × 8 cm), bonded to the internal walls, in a quantity defined by supplier sizing according to the internal volume of [V] m³ and the site climate.
The desiccant provides a useful adsorption capacity at least 8 times that of silica gel in the 60-90% RH range, spontaneous regeneration at ambient temperature, an operating range of -20 °C to +70 °C, 0 W, with no consumables and no maintenance over the service life of the installation. Non-toxic mineral material, REACH compliant.

Frequently asked questions

Is the evaluation kit free?

Yes. The kit is free for design consultancies, engineering firms and EMS providers with an identified project involving a sealed enclosure or an enclosed space exposed to condensation. No commission, no exclusivity, no minimum volume.

Does the enclosure need to be modified to fit AirSponge?

No. The AS-B is a self-adhesive sticker about 1 mm thick that sticks onto an internal wall of the enclosure. No drilling, no wiring, no power supply. It is applied on the assembly line, bare-handed, with no specific PPE.

Does AirSponge replace the pressure equalization vent?

The two are complementary. A vent (Gore type) balances pressure but does not control internal humidity. AirSponge adsorbs the water vapor present inside the enclosure. A climate chamber test showed that the AS-B eliminates condensation in an IP66 enclosure where the vent alone fails. Depending on the specification, the AS-B complements the vent or replaces it.

How is the AirSponge surface area sized?

The internal volume gives a first order of magnitude: XS below 0.5 L, S up to 1 L, M up to 10 L, L up to 100 L, AS-C tape above 1 m³. The online sizing tool refines this from the site climate, IP rating and thermal cycling. For critical cases, So Sponge performs the sizing and climate chamber tests.

Are custom formats available?

Yes. Custom die-cut formats are available down to a few cm² for miniature enclosures. Describe the available geometry in your kit request.

Is the product UL Recognized?

AirSponge is not yet UL Recognized. We provide material data sheets and test results, and can consider a UL submission if volume justifies it. The active material is a mesoporous aluminum oxide, mineral and non-toxic, REACH compliant.
