A rechargeable desiccant is simply a silica gel (or clay) you reactivate yourself instead of discarding it. It works — but each cycle needs an oven, energy and downtime, which is impractical for a sealed enclosure in the field, and bead capacity fades over repeated cycles.

Do rechargeable desiccants work? Yes — a rechargeable desiccant (reactivated silica gel) restores most of its capacity after oven-drying at 120-130°C. The catch is operational: you have to remove it, bake it and refit it on every cycle, and capacity declines gradually over many cycles.
How many times can you recharge a rechargeable desiccant? Silica gel tolerates dozens of recharge cycles, but adsorption capacity drops progressively. For equipment in the field, the recharge logistics usually cost far more than the desiccant itself.
Reusable, rechargeable or self-regenerating — what is the difference? A reusable or rechargeable desiccant needs an external action (an oven) to be used again.
